A couple of months ago in class, we were having a conversation about some different Indie bands that had recently gone mainstream. One of the bands that came up, was Death Cab for Cutie. However, a classmate who butted his way into the conversation halfway in and wasn’t paying attention ended up sticking his foot in his mouth rather quickly. He said, “Deaf Cats for Cutie?! What a stupid band name!” Yeah… not quite.

Now, this is exactly what happens to us as a leader sometimes. We can’t expect to come half way into a conversation or in the middle of someone explaining an idea, and fully understand/grasp what they are talking about. As a leader, you have to be able to be intentional, and you have to be able to listen. When someone is talking, listen. Listen to every word they say, pay attention, and give them your undivided attention. If you don’t, you just might end up saying something about some cats who are deaf for cutie. ;)

Country Cuban

Ileana Ortiz (a.k.a. Country Cuban) is the Director of Online Communities at Flamingo Road Church, an intern at 8BIT, and a freshman at the University of West Florida. She is a Jesus lover, people lover, and a world changer. Her family has seriously impacted the way she lives her life. She gets her sense of humor and passion for helping others, from her mom. She gets her business sense and realistic expectations from her dad. She wishes she could match the game of her little sister, because her little sister has had more boyfriends in her 7 year life span, than Ileana has ever met, in her 18 years of living. She loves to think of herself as a comedian, and hopes that people are laughing with her, not at her. She is constantly being mistaken for celebrities such as Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Penelope Cruz, Jessica Alba, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, and Angelina Jolie. She also happens to enjoy reading, writing, some good country music, all things tech, and when autumn rolls around.... a frothy Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks! I guess you could just say that she is your average 18 year old.. well.. not really.
